What Is Reiki?
Rieki is a spiritual healing art that originated in 1922 with Dr. Mikao Usui. It is a healing technique that brings about healing by virtue of a laying on of hands. Practitioners heal patients through channeling healing energy - life-force energy which is spiritually guided by the Higher Intelligence - through themselves and out into the patients. However, unlike many other sorts of healing, this energy is not sourced from the practitioners themselves. They are merely channels for the energy. This is why it is also known as healing without energy depletion.
The term itself is sourced from two Japanese words and concepts - Rei meaning spiritual wisdom, and Ki referring to the universal life force. So it can be interpreted as a universal life force or energy that can be used for healing which is guided by spiritual wisdom.
In order for people to become practitioners of this healing art, they first need to have been initiated by a Master. This initiation process is known as attunement, and once attuned, a person will be able to summon and channel the healing energy any time he or she may need to do so. All an attuned person needs to do to initiate a healing process is to place his or her hands near an area of a patient's body or on that area, and the energy will begin to flow immediately without prompting. The Rieki energy itself is understood to know where to go and what to do without prompting from whoever is channeling it; it can bring about positive responses based on what the patient needs, such as pain alleviation, relaxation, stress management, confidence boosting, and more. As the Higher Intelligence guides the energy, it can never do a patient harm. As a matter of fact, its power is such that space and even time is no obstacle; practitioners may send energy to people, animals, situations and places who are not present - and even to the past and future as well.
Those wishing to learn about this healing art must go to certified centers or masters. As mentioned, in the first step a person can take towards becoming a practitioner of this healing art, he or she is attuned to this healing energy so that he or she may channel it whenever it is needed. A person is also taught to treat him- or herself, is given an introduction to the history of the healing art, and also can work closely with his or her peers to familiarize themselves with the art and how to apply it. This is the first step towards being a practitioner, or someone who can learn how to channel the energy to aid other people.
In the second step, a person is taught more about the healing art and how to wield the energy, and in the third step, after a person has learned more about it and has grown in expertise and wisdom, he or she may learn to become a master - someone who not only heals but can attune and teach others to channel healing energy as well.
Rieki is completely compatible with medical treatments and healing modalities. As a matter of fact, by virtue of its religious neutrality and the fact that it was founded precisely to serve as no more than a healing art, it may also be done no matter what one's religious affiliations are.
